Miniature Pinscher

Demanding and headstrong, the Miniature Pinscher is spirited and fearless. They are a big dog in a small dog’s body, and may be overly courageous. They are high energy and love to bark.

MNPOriginally bred in Germany to hunt rats in houses and stables, the Miniature Pinscher (or Min Pin) is a courageous and energetic dog. Many believe the Min Pin is just a mini Doberman Pinscher, but the Miniature Pinscher is actually older than the Doberman and a very different, distinct breed.

Min Pins have a dynamite personality. If allowed, they will rule the house so early training and socialization is a must. They learn well, though, and are eager to do so. They are ball of energy and extremely curious – investigating everything. They are exceptionally skilled escape artists, so they should be kept on a leash or in a secured yard at all times.

Miniature Pinschers are, not surprisingly, a great watchdog. They are naturally apprehensive of strangers and generally fearless if threatened. Min Pins are good family dogs but because of their smaller size, they shouldn’t be around smaller children who may want to play with them. They may show aggression toward other dogs but if they socialized with them as a puppy, they will get along with other dogs and other types of pets.

Major Health Concerns: The Miniature Pinscher is generally a very healthy breed. They may suffer from dislocation of the knees.

Interesting Fact: The Miniature Pinscher’s coat can be solid red, stag red, blue stag red, chocolate stag red, fawn stag red, and black, chocolate, blue, and fawn.
