Sample Collection For Your Immigration Test

DNA testing is the most widely used technology to determine biological relationships. Usually sample collection is carried out by means of buccal swabs which we send to our clients in our all-inclusive kits. Oral swabs are very much like cotton buds with just a single cotton end on the stick. These need to be rubbed inside the mouth and then left to dry in order to collect samples. The actually swabbing procedure will need to be done by a neutral third party referred to as sampler. The sampler can be your family doctor or any other doctor you find available to do this for you. Other samples, such as blood, may be used but collecting and shipping these samples may prove more complicated.

Procedure For An Immigration DNA Test

In order to guide you in the best possible way, we will need to know what test you require and where the test participants are based.

Tested parties living in Australia: If test participants are based in Australia, they will need to provide us with the details of their chosen samples. We will send the kit directly to the sampler and clients will then need to set up an appointment with their sampler. Our immigration DNA test includes dispatch of a single kit. If more kits are required within Australia there will be an additional cost per kit.

Tested parties living outside Australia: If test participants live outside the Australia, DNA sample collection for an immigration DNA test will take place at the nearest embassy or consulate. International Biosciences will send your kit directly to the embassy or consulate. Depending on the location of individuals we may have to send kits out using a courier service; in such cases additional fees will apply.

FAQs

What is the difference between home DNA tests and immigration tests?

The laboratory testing processes for Court Approved/Immigration and Peace of Mind DNA tests are exactly the same. The difference is that Court Approved/immigration tests require a witness, proof of identity and special chain of custody procedures. A Peace of Mind Paternity test is not legally binding because there is no proof that samples have been collected from the correct participants. The peace of mind test is intended to be a discreet and private way of allowing families to resolve any questions without involving other parties. The Court Approved DNA tests require that an independent witness, such as a GP or health professional, oversees the sample collection process and is able to verify photo ID and maintain chain of custody.

Why do people require immigration DNA tests?

In most cases, individuals can prove they are related by means of birth records (such as birth certificates) or other such documents. However, there are cases where either individual do not have access to these records (perhaps these do not exist in their country of origin) or the records they have access to, are not up to the standards required by the authority in question. In such cases, supporting their claims to an alleged biological relationship will need to be done by means of a DNA test.
