Your results will be presented in a way that is easily understandable and will enlighten you on the following 6 aspects of your origins:
Your fatherline will trace the genetic footprints of your paternal ancestors. Here you will discover journey made by your father’s ancient ancestors thousands of years back, learning where they originated from and the geographical regions to which they migrated. This test is based on analysis of your paternally inherited Y chromosome and uses 14,000 genetic markers to show you your paternal Y haplogroup, specific sub-type and personal genetic signature. The 14,000 markers have been carefully selected to provide the most broad and comprehensive insights into your origins from your father’s side of the family.
*The fatherline report can only be included if test participants are male. There is a small additional cost for this. This means that females will have a report which delves into 5 aspects of their ancestry and will exclude the fatherline result. The fatherline test requires analysis of the male Y chromosome to provide a Y-DNA haplogroup assignment, with an analysis of a total of 15,000 Y-SNP
Your motherline will trace the genetic footprints of your maternal ancestors. Here you will discover journey made by your mother’s ancient ancestors thousands of years back, learning where they originated from and the geographical regions to which they migrated. This test is based on analysis of your maternally inherited MtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) and uses 3,000 genetic markers. The 3,000 markers have been carefully selected to be most informative, and as free from duplication as possible.
The results will also highlight your maternal haplogroup specific sub-type and personal genetic signature. Your haplogroup will then be placed on the mtDNA (motherline) tree, and give you your haplogroup-specific distribution frequencies across Britain and Ireland, and around the world.

Knowing your fatherline and motherline does not paint the whole picture. Piece your ancestry altogether with this important aspect of the test: All My Ancestry will tell you what you need to know about the part of your DNA that does not form part of your maternal or paternal ancestry come. It is a true voyage of discovery to learn that part of your genetic ancestry that has been obscured by millennia. We can tell you what percentage of your DNA comes from different regions from around the world and where you plot on global and continental genetic maps. In order to be able to provide you with accurate results, we have database access to the genetic information of over 4000 individuals from over 200 populations from all over the world. We will determine which of the populations your DNA most closely matched to give you your results.
Note that populations with which you share little DNA will not be represented in your results.
Wondering how bald you will be? How much hair you will lose by a given age? A big part of your baldness risks are down to your genes and your individual genotype (the genetic sequence that codes for a specific trait in an organism). Our test analyses two of the most important gene variants that cuse hair loss in males. One of these is only inherited from the mother as it is found on the X chromosome. The other, found on chromosome 20, can be inherited from either parent.
If you are female and wondering how this aspect of the test will affect you directly – the answer is that whilst it is true that women are not affected by male pattern baldness, the results of this test are still very significant for you because they will establish the chances you have of passing on the maternally inherited male pattern baldness genes to your children.

If we go back to very origins of man, we know that all eyes were brown. But some 10,000 years back a mutation happened in an individual living somewhere in the Baltic region* which results in blue eyes. All blue eyes individuals we see today descend from this single blue-eyed individual.
*The Baltic region refers to the area that today would include Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltic countries, and the North European Plain
Scotland and Ireland have the highest number of red heads per capita than any other part of the world!! Eighty percent of redheads have an MC1R gene variant (in other words, many variants of this gene will result in red hair). For a child to be born with red hair both parents must be carriers of a variant of the red hair gene and because the gene is recessive (and thus it will only be expressed if both parents carry it), you may be a carrier of the red hair gene and have no idea.
